MEC Opens Applications for Trade School and College Scholarships

CASSOPOLIS, Mich. — Midwest Energy and Communications (MEC) is offering four $1,000 scholarships to local high school seniors toward their trade school or college education. 

Additionally, up to two winners will be able to apply for a second scholarship after completing their first year of trade school or college.

Students must complete a brief video challenge to apply:

MEC provides three main services: electric, propane, and fiber internet. Pick ONE and create a commercial to promote it.

Think outside the box! Imagine you’re making a commercial for TV. What kinds of artwork, storytelling, and other creative flourishes can you use to advertise your chosen service in an unforgettable way?

To be eligible to apply, students must:

  • Receive monthly service from MEC at their family’s primary residence.
  • Submit an official transcript.
  • Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a four-point scale.

Please note that children of MEC employees and board members are NOT eligible to apply.

The deadline to apply is Monday, March 17, 2025. Winners will be announced in the spring.
