Plant the Right Tree in the Right Place

To ensure your trees and shrubs have room to grow, consider the size and shape of the canopy when they’re mature.

Do not plant any trees within 30 feet of power lines.
Small and medium trees like redbud, dogwood, and golden rain tree should be planted at least 30 feet away from power lines.
Large trees like maple, oak, spruce, and pine should be planted at least 60 feet away from power lines.

Before you dig, always call 8-1-1! They'll mark your primary underground utilities - critical to avoid potentially cutting utility lines to yourself or your neighbors, which can result in a hefty repair bill of hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars.
