Plant the Right Tree in the Right Place
To ensure your trees and shrubs have room to grow, consider the size and shape of the canopy when they’re mature.
- Do not plant any trees within 30 feet of power lines.
- Small and medium trees like redbud, dogwood, and golden rain tree should be planted at least 30 feet away from power lines.
- Large trees like maple, oak, spruce, and pine should be planted at least 60 feet away from power lines.

Before you dig, always call 8-1-1! They'll mark your primary underground utilities - critical to avoid potentially cutting utility lines to yourself or your neighbors, which can result in a hefty repair bill of hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars.
